Heading into the Holiday Season!!

There is lots going on that we would like to tell you about as we head into the holiday season.

First and foremost, of course, is our annual Celebration of Light. It will be held on December 19th at 7pm at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

After that, please join us on December 21st at 7pm at the Peace Centre for a very special 'Taize' service. This is a contemplative service of readings, music, and silence. It is a profound experience that you won't want to miss.

And finally we will join again with millions of others around the world for the World Healing Day peace meditation on December 31st at 4:00 am (no we are not kidding) at the Peace Centre.

All the best for a wonderful holiday season from all of us at the Centre for Spiritual Living Kelowna!!!

World Day of Service 2016 - Your Gift to the World

Selfless service alone gives the needed strength and courage to awaken the sleeping humanity in one's heart. - Dr. Crystal J. Davis  CSL Member Council

We have created a Triple-header Service opportunity for you to share your gift of service with the City of Kelowna as you participate in CSL's 4th Annual World Day of Service.

People of all ages, children to seniors are invited to join us as CSL Kelowna participates in the BC Thanksgiving Day Food Drive.  This is a great chance to gather as family, natural and spiritual, to collect food that will stock the shelves of the Kelowna Food Bank.

All events take place at the Pandosy Peace Centre, 2490 Pandosy Street (corner of Morrison and Pandosy).

On Saturday evening Sept 10, at 7pm  we will kick-start the event with a fun movie and popcorn evening at the Pandosy Peace Centre.  We will have Spiritual Cinema as we gather to prepare bags to be handed out in our community to collect food.  Bring along a stapler if you have one!  Popcorn and beverages will be served!

Thursday evening at 6:30, we gather to fan out in teams, via vehicle, to deliver empty grocery bags and flyers to homes around the Peace Centre.  This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, and to get a bit of exercise at the same time.  We are generally finished by 8:30 or 9:00 pm.

Saturday, Sept 17th at 10:00 am we will return, in teams, to pick up the donated food items from homes in our assigned area.  Once the food is picked up from homes, we will collect it together for delivery to the Food Drive Drop-off spot.  People are welcome to join in the sorting of food items at the drop-off zone, or may choose to complete their day at the PPC.    We are generally done food pick up by 12:30 or 1:00pm, and the sorting at the food bank site is complete by 3:00 or 4:00.  People need not stay for the sorting, but it is so much fun!

Falling into Transformative Education

“It’s time to get some class in our lives”

This is a phrase we often use at this time of year to let everyone know about our upcoming Science of Mind personal transformation classes. It is also a wonderful way to think about the opportunity before us.

Ernest Holmes said: “The Universe is fundamentally spiritual -- it has intelligence, purpose, beauty, and order. Whether we call it God, Nature, Spirit, Energy, or Universal Intelligence, all emanates from this Spiritual Universe.”

We have an opportunity in our classes to learn how to use and personalize the metaphysical principles used by spiritual masters throughout history. In class you can expect some profound discussions, readings, spiritual practice, meditation, and some lectures.

I know for me, taking classes was the most transformational step I took in my own personal growth (unwitting as it was at the time!).

I was impacted not only by what I learned  about creating new experiences through changing my belief system, but I was also moved by the opportunity to connect with fellow travellers along the path, and to forge deep, lifelong friendships.

So I invite you to let this be the year of your own personal transformation.

See you in class,
Dr. Deborah Gordon

Why take Science of Mind classes?

I have the great honour of teaching the first year of Science of Mind classes with Dr. Deborah in the fall. As I review the curriculum, I am reminded of how profound and life-changing taking SOM classes can be.

Looking back to my first class 10 years ago I can hardly believe the magnitude of changes in my life since then. All four quadrants of life – health, wealth, creative expression, and loving relationships - are completely different for me now.

At the time, I was a single mom in the process of bankruptcy. I was self-employed, working as a bookkeeper in order to hide away from the world because I was crippled by severe anxiety. I was miserable and desperately searching for a way out.

Ten years later, I am healthy and working in a career that I love.  I am 7 years into a relationship with an amazing partner, and in a much stronger financial position. And… my journey is nowhere near over. The most important part of all of this is that I can now truly say that I am happy and incredibly grateful for my life. I am so glad that I kept showing up to class and doing the work to plant the seeds for a new life.

I am excited to continue my journey as I support others on theirs. I am also humbled and delighted to have the opportunity to teach alongside Dr. Deborah. She is one of my heroes and mentors. While we all get to see Dr. Deb’s wisdom and grace every week from the podium, her brilliance truly shines when she is teaching a class. Dr. Deb has a depth of understanding from her years of being steeped in New Thought that is evident as she helps students to make sense of what can seem like such complex ideas.

If you haven’t yet taken first year Science of Mind classes or if it has been a while since you have taken them and you could use a little boost in your life, then please join us. Science of Mind 101 – The Spiritual Path will start in the second week of September. Keep an eye out for more details about upcoming classes throughout the summer.
